Window Blinds for Your Protection

Window blinds are the coverings used for the windows to give shade and privacy to your place, generally attached to the interior side of the window. The good thing about using these blinds, is that you can control the amount of light coming in simply by adjusting the blinds.

Types of window blinds:

Window blinds come in various types:

Slat blinds: These blinds have numerous flat horizontal slats, which are joined with string so that they can be rotated. This allows light to pass between the slats. To keep the light out, they can be rotated up to 170 degrees, or to clear the window they can be pulled up. By pulling a cord or rotating a connector which is attached to the string, the rotation can be achieved, and a different string is used for the raising and lowering of the blinds. There are other versions where both the mechanisms are combined into one single rod.

Slat blinds include:

Venetian blinds: Introduced around 1770 in Venice, these blinds are made of plastic or metal, and sometimes even wooden slats are used, which are known as wood blinds or bamboo blinds. The width of the slat ranges between 50-120 mm.

Miniblinds: These are basically venetian blinds that have slats measuring from 19-24 mm only.

Vertical blinds or track blinds: These blinds use plastic or metal horizontal slats which can be rotated ninety degrees to allow the light to come in, or can be folded to the side for a clear view through the window.

Solid blinds: Often called window shades, these blinds unlike venetian blinds, cannot be rotated. But they can be rolled up or folded to allow the light to come in. These blinds include:

Holland blinds: Known as roller shades, as they have rolling window blinds which can be pulled down.

Woven-wood blinds: The slats used are made of decorative wood or bamboo, which are woven together using colorful yarns or other decorative material. These blinds can be rolled up or folded out of the way. They are energy efficient, have greater light control, and are economical alternatives to shutters.

Pleated shades: These blinds consist of pleated fabric shades which can be pulled up to the top of the window.

Honeycomb shades or cellular shades: They are similar to pleated shades, but here there are two or more joined together at the pleats forming compartments to trap air, thus giving the room insulation to save on your energy bills. Cellular shades come in various styles, such as double and triple cell styles.

Roman shades: These blinds have a cord woven through the fabric that allows you to raise or lower the shade in an accordion pattern. They are easy to operate and are very efficient in insulation.

While installing your blinds, you should see to it that the blinds are unobstructed such that when it is fully extended, it can still hang freely. It is necessary to cut the blinds to make them fit in the windows. You have to measure the width and length correctly before cutting the blinds. You can also put the blinds in your bathroom windows. Roller Shade Chain Systems Fix a Problem of Durability

There have been many advances in healthcare. New alphabet machinery such as MRI, PET, CT, have come to add to the existing machinery, like x-ray imaging. However, with other less critical industries, there are also important advances worth noting. Among these "lesser industries" is that of the window treatments business. What seems like a boring group of products, which can be bypassed if desired, is actually a thriving dynamic industry full of product innovations. These special product changes are not only limited to new colors, but they also include new control systems. Roller shades are a traditional product in window coverings, one which goes back to before the turn of the century. With internal springs to help retract them, pull shades have finally met their match, the chain, or clutch, drawn shades.

Roller shades made with springs would be lowered manually, either by the pulling down of the shade fabric or a tassel attached to the bottom of the shade fabric, to lower them. To raise spring roller shades, one would tug at the bottom of the shade, or if there is a tassel- tug the roller shade tassel. However, one can see that there would develop problems in roller shades that are manually manipulated.

Roller shades could become dirty with this regular touching. Shade fabric can rip or become otherwise damaged with this constant pulling. Finally, roller shade control springs can break over time, cause roller shades to not roll up properly, sometimes not allowing them to be controlled at all, without consumer intervention.

So, to alleviate this, innovators in the shades industry have developed new control systems for roller shades. These systems are called chain-driven, or clutch based. Roller shades controlled by these new controls would be manipulated by the pulling on the front, or back, of a chain hanging from the top of the roller shade. This chain can be made either from plastic, or metal, and both are strong products.

Chains made from plastic are actually stronger and more durable than that of the metal kind. However, many prefer their roller shades to be controlled by metal chains. In the end, both are high quality, and roller shade manufacturers usually only choose based on price; they mostly consider quality or performance, so they have good intentions in making quality roller shades.

The benefits of chain controlled roller shades are countless, but we will look at a few here. The first such benefit is more accurate shade positioning. Consider how difficult it would be to adjust a spring roller shade to an exact height. When positioning spring shades, you always would have to accept the spring's "suggestion" on where to leave it. However, when chain roller shades are what you have, you can set the height of the shade to be exactly where you want it.

Another benefit of chain roller shades is that the shade fabric can stay in the same great condition as when it was installed. This is because you will no longer need to physically touch the fabric on the roller shade to raise it or lower it. This can add years of life and beauty to the roller shades. Imagine that you no longer need to wash finger prints off your roller shades- all because you have a control chain instead.

Roller shade chain systems are also much more durable, and stronger, than the spring systems of the past. This is because of different types of springs in the roller shades. The new styles of springs are built into a sealed case, and the purpose of the springs is to resist the shade from sliding. That is not much different from what you had in a spring roller shade, but the difference is that the spring roller shades are not reliant on the same weak springs as in older spring shades. The new roller shade systems have special designs to allow them to control larger shades- often as big as 8 feet wide and 10 feet tall. These large roller shades would never have been possible with spring roller shades.

So, if you want roller shades to last longer, stay cleaner, or be large enough to cover your large windows- in a single roller shade, you should consider chain controlled roller shades. They will provide the long life and beauty that you want in your window treatments. Imagine that, innovations in medicine also work for longer life and beauty.
